Digitization has permeated all areas of media production. Whether we cosume media products on the Internet, on CD-Rom or DVD, on TV or radio, at information terminals or on mobile devices as an OnDemand service or in form of a print product - behind these stand multi-layered processes of production, distribution and archiving.
An attractive target group specific design, intuitive interfaces that are generated dynamically from database-driven content management systems - are only two examples of the close connection between design and information technology which characterises professional multimedia production today. There is a high demand for creative people who can establish a bridge between informatics and design in the development of innovative media applications. This requires a design-aesthetic judgement, as well as the ability for a technical realisation and the reflection of societal impact of new media technologies.

Students with a major in Digital Media receive a strong interdisciplinary training in media artistic and information technology skills. This enables graduates to be a versatile and flexible worker in a dynamic growth industry. The students will be able to conceptually and technically design and realise multimedia products and content. During the semester, theoretical and practical knowledge will often be tested and consolidated in form of assignments with a thematic framework, such as the development of a website, an interactive CD-Rom, a computer game or the production of a video. Graduates of Informatics with a major in Digital Media conceptually design, develop, programme and design applications and products across the entire spectrum of current (multi-) media. They use specific application software and complex authoring tools, programme and integrate databases and content management systems, develope plug-ins with the use of application programming interfaces (APIs), or develop software for innovative problem solving in the digital media production.
With a sound and fundamental background of a informatics education and the media-specific approach, the graduates are well qualified for the challenges of the media industry. The media, IT and telecommunications industry is one of the strongest and most vibrant economic factors in the region Berlin-Brandenburg.
