For our first-year students of the Bachelor degree programmes Informatics, Applied Informatics and Medical Informatics, we designed a project-oriented study start (in September for the winter semester respectively). Therefore we have developed the two-part module "Project-oriented Studies / Academic skills", which pursues four objectives:

• Social Event: Freshmen get to know each
• Propaedeutic: Practical introductory for informatics students
• Learning skills: "learning to learn" supported through group processes and self-help
• Experimental learning culture: The project-oriented study is an educational change offering for the Department of Informatics and Media

The first part of the project-oriented study covers the first two regular study days in the winter semester. You will have the opportunity to attend introductory workshops and learn more about fundamentals for the start of your study (eg, academic skills, laboratory and IT infrastructure of the faculty, study and work organization, etc.). You also receive important information on institutions of the University of Applied Sciences Brandenburg and get to know your fellow students.

The second part of the project-oriented study starts at the end of the second study day. In a large plenar hall participating teachers (professors and scientific staff) of the Department will provide you with information to their department's projects. These are linked to introductory courses for the first semester and can be worked on, even without any prior knowledge of informatics.

Over the next eight weeks you will be working on supervised, but largely self-organized - meaning spatially and temporally flexible - project groups together with up to eight fellow students. The project groups will be supervised by teachers of the Department, ie, there are regular meetings, in which work progress will be presented and discussed.

Results are prepared by the project groups in the form of spreadsheets, and presentations. These will be presented to other students at the completion of the project-oriented studies in a three days presentation period.

We offer a mandatory weekly advisory services to assist in the "work organization and presentation preparation" for all project groups during their project work.
